Literally, it’s all happening for Bishop Briggs (previously known as just “Bishop” but was changed not to be confused with a metal band that shared the same name). Once her singles “River” and “Wild Horses” were released, her musical career exploded. She’s been on tour with Coldplay and Kaleo. Her single was in an Acura commercial. And this year she booked Coachella. For this mysterious and sultry singer-songwriter the future is all in her favor.
Bishop Briggs had an international upbringing (her passion for music was first realized when living in Tokyo, singing at a karaoke bar) before moving to Los Angeles where she got her real start in her professional career. But wherever she’s come from and wherever she’s going, mainstream success doesn’t seem to be a main focus. As long as she’s writing, staying inspired and keeping others inspired, that’s the main priority.
When you listen to Bishop Briggs (whose actual name is Sarah McLaughlin) there’s a sense of dark intensity to her sound, which reminds you a bit of Lorde, and makes you either want to seduce someone while playing one of her songs loud (especially “River”) or makes you want to cradle your heart and remember the pain of love as she sings “You call my truth in the worst way, through the dirty lands of a broken smile. And I swear I’m not a pretender.” Her sound is serious, soulfully catchy and sexy, too. Bishop Briggs is currently signed to Island Records.
