DIIV’s Zachary Cole Smith has just revealed to us him checking into “Long-Haul Inpatient Treatment” through his Instagram post. Smith posted that it his time to stop kidding himself and how he has taken this “road past the point of sanity.” He bids his fairwells and sends his love.
In the past Smith has publicly struggled with drug use in the past. Back in September 2013, he was arrested on misdemeanor charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Smith revealed in interviews that he checked himself into rehab for 12 days in which songs on DIIV’s album Is The Is Are were written about his struggle with heroin addiction. He tries to be the cautionary tale stating “Look at the words. Look at what happened to me.” Just back in March of last year while DIIV was touring around their album Is The Is Are, the band had to abruptly cancel their second half of their European tour due to Smith’s urgent medical problem suspected to be drug related.
All we can do is send positivity and hope for the best for Smith as he continues his journey in treatment so we can see him on the brighter side.
