Social Distortion @ The Fillmore 3/16

Punk Godfathers, Social Distortion is hitting up the Fillmore this winter with their spring tour as they make their way throughout the US. They are embarking on their tour alongside Jade Jackson.

For the past 30 years this band has been the forerunners for punk music, they were an ambassador of punk to mainstream music. They started out back in 1978 and have been keeping it rolling. Unfortunately they haven’t released any new work as of late, but their last album was dropped in 2011 called Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes. This album is responsible for the hits Machine Gun Blues and California (Hustle and Flow). Previous to that they last dropped an album was 2004 with Sex, Love, And Rock ‘N Roll, which produced the hits Reach For The Sky and Angel’s Wings. So, so far the band has seven albums, all which keep true to their diverse punk style of a mix of true California punk, country rock, and a hint of the blues. Their biggest hits to date from their discography are 1990’s Story of My Life, Ball and Chain, and their cover of Cash’s Ring of Fire; more than 20 years later these songs are still rocking the radio waves. Alongside those are, 1996’s Don’t Drag Me Down and I Was Wrong from the album White Heat, White Light, White Trash. My personal favorite, is from their original 1982 album Mommy’s Little Monster with the song Anti-Fashion, which shows the roots of the band in the L.A based punk/hardcore scene but still has the same feel of the band’s newer, more popular stuff.

Social Distortion is timeless, here I am 30 years later rocking them on my Daily Mix Playlist from Spotify despite the songs being (ahem) older than me. Fans of Bad Religion, NOFX, and The Descendents will be down and should know about this show already. This band is an experience I wouldn’t want to miss, so you, my friend, shouldn’t either. Hit click on a ticket and catch these punk legends take the stage.
