Green Day, Catfish & the Bottlemen @ Wrigley Field (8/24)

Historic Wrigley Field is the place for great concerts this summer.  Green Day is set to perform and help us wrap up the summer on August 24th.  The famous ballpark will host a record number of six concerts this year with performances by James Taylor, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Billy Joel and Zac Brown Band.

The Bay area trio consisting of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool just celebrated their twelfth studio album release in October with Revolution Radio.  They are currently on tour promoting the album; and while it may not be as commercially popular as albums in their past, the pop punk rock group regularly plays their hits for their loyal fans.  Armstrong’s engagement with the crowd keeps you wanting more of his nonconformist attitude (so rock n roll, man!).

Over the years, the band has continued their rebellious behavior during live performances.  This past November, Green Day made a political statement during their American Music Awards show performance when they chanted “No Trump, No KKK, No Facist USA” in their song “Bang Bang”.  This line comes from the eighties and a group called M.D.C. when they wrote the song “Born to Die” about Nazis.  The line was changed to match the feeling from the outcome of the election and definitely made a statement.

With nine more months until the show, I wonder what kind of material Armstrong will have to work with…
