This summer marks the 15th anniversary of indie rock veterans Interpol’s debut album Turn on the Bright Lights and in honor of the occasion they have announced a special European anniversary tour with plans to perform the LP in full each and every night. Not only will the band be going on tour but they also revealed they are currently working on a sixth studio album, which they’ve slated for a 2018 release via Matador Records.
The new album will be the first new music from Interpol since the album El Pintor was released in 2014. El Pintor had been the first album released by Interpol since the departure of bassist Carlos Dengler in 2010. Dengler, (a.k.a. Carlos D) made the decision to leave the alt-rock outfit he co-founded in 1997 to pursue other avenues and personal goals. In a statement given by the band at the time of the departure they stated “[Dengler] has decided to follow another path, and to pursue new goals,” the post read. “This separation is amicable, and we whole-heartedly wish him great happiness and success. We will remain, as always, deeply respectful fans of this blazingly talented individual.”
Though the current announcement is only showing tour dates in Europe Interpol have promised that more dates are on the way and hopefully this means the addition of some US tour dates are soon to come! Meanwhile, European fans can get their tickets on Wednesday. An exclusive fan pre-sale will go live on Jan. 25the at 9 a.m. GMT with the general on-sale begins Friday, Jan. 27. Though ticket links are not yet available you can go to the band’s website to sign up for a reminder when the tickets are available on pre-sale.
