AFI @ Emo’s 2/14

Rock band AFI (A Fire Inside) will be playing a show at Emo’s this Valentine’s Day. If you remember the romantically gothic persona that AFI shrouded themselves in during the early 2000’s, then you know that this show is something special. Winter, love, emo. AFI was synonymous with these words around the time of their 2006 breakout album, Decemberunderground—although the term “emo” in this sense has really nothing to do with the music venue Emo’s. If that weren’t a more perfect combination to satisfy your 14-year-old self, then I don’t know what to tell you.

All jokes aside, AFI has been active in the music scene since the early 90’s, with lead vocalist Davey Havok at the forefront since the release of their 1995 debut, Answer That and Stay Fabulous. In fact, Havok and drummer Adam Carson, are the only founding members in the bands current lineup. Throughout the years, AFI’s sound has undergone drastic changes. Their early years were spent playing hardcore punk rock, which eventually took on a more gothic/horror feel as the years went by. In 2003, AFI released the incredibly streamlined, Sing the Sorrow, which took their music in a more post-hardcore and melodic direction.

Be sure to catch AFI at Emo’s this Valentine’s day. Since the group has amassed a large following, you may want to get your tickets in advance.
