It’s the harmonies of The Wild Reeds that pushes their folk-country sound into another sphere of music that’s emotionally-driven and ethereal and demands your attention. When the voices of Kinsey Lee, Mackenzie Howe and Sharon Silva come together, something magical happens–proving the depth of their songwriting and musical capabilities. Listen to “Where I’m Going” which is the first track of Blind and Brave and you’ll understand just how intense these ladies take their harmonies. It’s serious. And you’ll feel it. You’ll feel the passion in which they’ve written their songs–the torment of love and heartache that fills every molecule of every track.
In 2010 the band released Songs for the Morning, Afternoon, and Evening. In 2014 they released Blind and Brave, and then in 2016 they released a three-track EP called Best Wishes, and that EP will hit you hard. The songs are brutally honest and sad and nostalgic–especially when they sing lyrics like “I dream that someday I’ll find the peace I need” and “Two nights ago I was holding your hand…” as heard in the song “What I Had in Mind.”
But there’s an energy to some of their songs, too–the songs that have an upbeat Americana feel (even if the lyrics aren’t the happiest), which you can hear in “Of All the Dreams” and “Love Make a Fool.” Their new single “Only Songs” is a preview to their upcoming album coming out on Dualtone Records, and they don’t hold anything back with lyrics like “Have you ever had a love that’s bigger than you?” And yet again, The Wild Reeds strike an emotional chord.
