January 2001 saw the emergence of a new-age group out of Stillwater, New Jersey who called themselves “Railroad Earth.” The name, borrowed from the Jack Kerouac story “October in the Railroad Earth,” is the vehicle to their sound as they incorporate blue grass and jam band aspects of music that seem to have jumped on board as the train made its pass through their respective towns. The group already had its name management in place before their first rehearsal. During the bands first three weeks they realized they had something both unique and exciting, could they have manifested their destiny with all the energy that had come together?
The band currently has studio albums with their debut release “The Black Bear Sessions” leading up 2014 with saw the birth of “Last of the Outlaws.” The band has grown into their sound, with joyful and rhythmic banjo play that blends seamlessly with a rock-n-roll vibe that greatly fuses the blue grass american roots with their jam band feel. Railroad Earth is currently on tour and they are sure to make you move. A classic highlight in their performances include improvisation on any given record. They enjoy playing in the moment and expanding on their sound, as they originally came together for the sake f playing music, eventually falling into their own sound.
Railroad Earth will be rolling through Los Angeles on Thursday March 2 and the Teragram Ballroom. It’s expected to be a lively show! So bring your chewing-straw and leather jackets, it’s a show that will both excite you and introduce you to a new-age yet vintage sound.
