Rock-legend Iggy Pop and modern, musical-marvel Danger Mouse bridge generational gaps with their most recent collaboration for the upcoming film Gold. The film stars Mathew McConaughey, and is directed by Stephen Gaghan. Fans of both the film and it’s featured track’s collaborators can see the American crime/drama combine, on screen, January 27th, nationwide.
“Gold”, The track in question, is a brooding journey back in time: insert cowboys and the wild, wild west here. However, Danger Mouse’s (a.k.a. Brian Burton) obvious influence come through in the track’s production. For, the single awards historical references (i.e. the lawlessness of Tombstone, Arizona), with new, evolving sounds created in the now—but in sonic feels, this ladder juxtaposition is sometime far off in the future.
Rolling Stone Magazine adds, “the song is rooted in a spaghetti-Western theme from the film score by Daniel Pemberton, and Danger Mouse’s admiration for the understated, emotional snarl he remembered from Iggy’s ‘I Want to Go to the Beach’ (from 2009’s Preliminaires). ‘It’s almost spoken but the personality’s there, and it’s just dark,’ he says.”
While Iggy Pop and Danger Mouse are, in actuality, celebrating their sophomore efforts as collaborators for the most recent title track “Gold”, Iggy and Danger were previously tagged with working together in 2010, along side Sparklehorse mastermind,the late Mark Linkous, for the Dark Night of the Soul album project. The two rightful “rock stars”, however, comment on the latest track, as the more meaningful of the two. Peep all that glittering kind of “Gold” here.
