American record producer and DJ, Lucas MacFadden–popularly known as Cut Chemist–has been a prominent figure in the music industry since the early 90’s. He’s notable for his frequent collaborations and tours with DJ Shadow, and his work with the latin funk/hip hop group Ozomatli.
MacFadden gained popularity in the early 90’s when he appeared on the single, “Unified Rebelution”, from Los Angeles hip hop outfit, Unity Committee. Through a merger between Unity Committee and Rebels of Rhythm, the alternative hip hop group, Jurassic 5, was formed. Throughout the mid 90’s, MacFadden frequently worked with Jurassic 5, appearing on, and co-producing their self-titled EP. MacFadden was also an avid collaborator, and member of, Ozomatli. Their 1999 debut album featured the song, “Cut Chemist Suite”, which became well known through its appearance on the hit video game, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3. Although MacFadden is primarily a music producer, he has also made appearances in the hit films Up in The Air, Juno, and Jennifer’s Body.
