Pop-punk fans are gonna be psyched to hear that Modern Baseball is coming to Berkeley this spring. They are hitting up the UC Theatre in April, so it’s the perfect show to get you through your mid-semester slump. The band is embarking on their tour with openers Kevin Devine, Sorority Noise, and The Obsessives.
Modern Baseball was one of those bands that were apart of my induction into the pop-punk scene back in high school. Their pop-punk/indie rock sound resonated with my younger self and still does today as a college kid. The band started out back in 2012 and released their first album, Sports, the same year. Notable songs from that release are The Weekend, Tears Over Beers, a personal favorite, and See Ya Sucker. Then, 2 years later in 2014, they dropped their sophomore album You’re Gonna Miss It All, which includes hits Your Graduation and Fine, Great. In 2015 the band released the EP MOBO Presents: The Perfect Cast EP featuring Modern Baseball. As of late the band put out their most recent album, Holy Ghost in 2016 which is responsible for the fresh songs Wedding Singer and Everyday.
The band’s style of using emotional and personal lyrics really are what resonates the most with their fans. When you listen to their songs it just feels personal, feels like you’re getting a glimpse into the angsty minds of the band. Their shows are so kickass, they were one of the first concerts I went to as a kid. The energy they give off is infectious and really gets the pit moving; they guys interact in a playful manner that just translates so well into good vibes. Fans of Seahaven, The Front Bottoms, and The Wonder Years will jump for this show. Their power pop punk sound, good vibes, and kickass experience should get you to hit click and catch some tickets.
