Hugo Manuel–better known by the moniker Chad Valley–is an electronic music producer and singer. Manuel’s music is a combination of Balearic house, synthpop, and chillwave. In 2010, the oxford musician began Chad Valley as a solo side project alongside his tropical indie-pop band Jonquil. His debut self-titled EP released the year he began his solo endeavors, and dropped under his current label Cascine–an independent record label based out of New York City and London.
Manuel released his sophomore EP, 2011’s Equatorial Ultravox, which brought his music to a much wider audience. Always looking to amplify his sound, Chad Valley’s 2012 debut album, Young Hunger, featured contributions from prominent electronic musicians such as Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Twin Shadow. His debut record captured the exuberance of 1980’s dance and pop music, while still maintaining a contemporary feel. Chad Valley’s music could arguably be classified as “pop,” however, Manuel attempts to be an alternative to what you would normally hear on top 40 radio. An interview with NBHAP revealed that he makes “pop music for people who don’t like pop music.”
Chad Valley is touring with Computer Magic, and will perform at the Sidewinder on February 9th.
