Babymetal Announced as Openers For Red Hot Chili Peppers Spring 2017 United States Tour

While by most accounts 2016 was an awful year, no one told BABYMETAL, who are looking to continue their string of success into 2017 as the supporting act to the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ U.S. tour following dates in December for their U.K. tour.

The Japanese heavy-metal/teen-pop (what) trio will kick off the tour starting on April 12th in Washington D.C. at the Verizon Center and will conclude their leg of the tour on April 29th in Miami at the American Airlines Arena.

The huge cosign from the Chili Peppers, who themselves have had a bit of a resurrection in 2016 with the release of The Getaway, comes after monumental year for the group. They released their critically acclaimed album Metal Resistance, which made them the first Japanese artist in over 50 years to climb into the Billboard Top 40 (US), and the first Japanese artist to headline at the UK Wembley Arena (where they announced a new album). 2016 also saw them put on a huge performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which garnered attention from The New York Times, Esquire, USA Today, and a slew of other publications.

All of this has set up BABYMETAL for a bright 2017, as RHCP isn’t the only band they will be supporting. In addition, the trio will support Metallica in South Korea on January 11th and will also join Guns n’ Roses for four shows on their Japan Reunion tour starting on January 21st.

Want a sneak peek as to what to expect from the tour? RHCP drummer Chad Smith recently joined BABYMETAL onstage to cover Judas Priest’s (who they’ve also performed with) “Breaking the Law” in a pretty epic performance.
