Bastille is a British indie pop formed in 2010 formed by Dan Smith (lead vocals, piano, keyboards and percussion) with Kyle Simmons, Will Farquarson, Chris Wood and touring member Charlie Barnes. Smith is credited with arranging and writing the band’s music which is known for its upbeat percussion and heavy use of keyboards and synthesizers.
The British rock band has sold over 8 million records worldwide with their most popular in the US being Bad Blood which features the catchy “Pompei”. The song was released in February 2013 and reached number five on the US charts and earned the band a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. Since then the band has been touring heavily, opening for Muse and playing at Glastonbury festival.
Bastille released Wild World in 2016 and the record has reached the number one spot on both the UK and Scottish charts. The band set off on their Wild Wild World Tour in July and will make a stop in Chicago on April 3rd at Aragon Ballroom.
Fun fact: The name originates from Bastille Day, July 14th, which is Smith’s birthday!
