In light of the tragic events that transpired last year including but not limited to Prince passing away, rock singer Mac McCaughan has released a new song called “Happy New Year (Prince Can’t Die Again). Not only is the song wildly appropriate and agreeable, it’s also catchy and well written. He wrote and recorded the song on Christmas eve, “in a moment of trying to look at any possible bright side of the coming new year after the disaster that was
“Happy New Year (Prince Can’t Die Again)” opens with a reflection on the passing of many music icons, and goes into satirical commentary about the only people who will seemingly thrive in this new era.
Oh, it was a year when everybody died/
And it was a year when the adults and children cried/
For the loss of their hope, for the loss of their youth/
And next year might be better but I don’t see any proof/

McCaughan is a member of alternative indie band Superchunk who released their thenth studio album titled I Hate Music via Merge REcords in 2013 and recieved good reviews from critics. A writer from Rolling Stone wrote “The title is bullshit – the kind people spit when dodging pain.”
