Electric-pop star Ladyhawke is coming to the city and is bringing her infectious sound with her. The singer will be performing at the Independent on March 28th. Ladyhawke is embarking on her Let It Roll tour, which is covering most of north America and the UK throughout the beginning of 2017.
An eclectic mix of pop and electric is what makes Ladyhawke’s sound unique and sets her apart. Her songs are chill and full of catchy hooks. Most recently the New Zealand artist dropped her third album Wild Things during this year. The album’s notable songs are A Love Song and Let It Roll. Previous to her recent album she’s been an active solo musician since 2008, after her departure from previous bands Two Lane Backtop and Teenager. Her other hits include Magic and My Delirium from her 2008 self-titled album and Girl Like Me from her 2012 album Anxiety. Her real name is Phillipa Brown, but her stage name Ladyhawke’s origin is as badass as her music. She named herself after a Michelle Pfeiffer movie character because “a sort of pop superwoman creating radio-friendly songs with a single bound” according to The Guardian. Her sound is fun, electro-pop, and will remind you of the fun techno music straight from the 80s. If her music sounds a little familiar her hit song Blue Eyes has been featured in a Verizon Wireless Commercial, which helped her gain fame in the U.S
Fans of La Roux, The Ting Tings, and Peaches are going to be down for this show. Her sound is similar to them and will keep you pumped from the beginning of her set to the end. Her music is fun and it’s perfect for dancing or being the backdrop for a fun conversation. Check her out for a good time and some good tunes.
