Suicide Silence Announces New Album Suicide Silence for February 2017 Release

Suicide Silence

American deathcore band Suicide Silence have revealed their fifth studio album will be self-titled and released on February 24 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. Suicide Silence was produced by the legendary Ross Robinson (Slipknot / Korn) and mixed by Joe Barresi (Kyuss / Tool). Suicide Silence represents the band’s second album since the death of vocalist Mitch Lucker.

Following Lucker’s death and nearly a year of inactivity, it was confirmed on October 2, 2013 that Suicide Silence would continue as a band with a new vocalist, Hernan “Eddie” Hermida. Since his debut on You Can’t Stop Me in 2014 singer Eddie Hermida has lent his vocals to Suicide Silence with the intention of paying respect to the memory of Lucker. For the new album Hermida has said “We were paying homage [to Lucker on our last album], paying respects to the legacy that was left behind, but now it’s time to pick up the reins and it’s a new band and it’s a new entity and it’s the perfect opportunity for a band to redefine themselves, to show the world who we really are deep down inside. We’re not little kids anymore and we’re not trying to prove ourselves in the heavy community. We’ve already made our name there and it’s time to spread our wings and see what happens. You can only learn how to fly by jumping off the cliff.”

Lead guitarist Mark Heylmun also spoke of the new band dynamic in an interview with Wall of Sound stating “We always want to work together to encourage everyone to be the best that they can be. So that’s especially where we’re at, having gone through a lot, and having a new member come in and having to rebuild that whole camaraderie of being creative. We’re all just trying to give to the music, and give to each other and give, give, give, give, give. Because we gotta get shit out and give this fucking music, this fiery piece of nothing, this magical thing that doesn’t even exist until we create it. Just throw down and give it all you can and encourage each other to give all you can and encourage each other to give it everything you possibly can. So that’s what the new record is going to be like.”

As to the upcoming album’s sound, Heylmun shared, “It’s going to completely change everything you probably ever will think, and have thought, or ever will f—ing feel about Suicide Silence.” Hermida added, “The best way I’ve described it is, take a bullet train — one of those Japanese bullet trains — that goes, like, three hundred miles an hour, and then turn the steering wheel as fast you can, and there we are.”
