Vince Staples @ Fox Theatre 2/25

Long Beach rapper Vince Staples is hitting up Oakland in February on his Life Aquatic tour. Vince Staples is being joined by songstress Kilo Kish as they travel the U.S. They will be making a stop in Oakland at the Fox Theatre on February 25th.

The rapper is no stranger to the SoCal rap scene. He’s a notable member of the hip hop group Cutthroat Boyz, which is composed of fellow musicians A$ton Matthews, Joey Fatts, andVince Staples himself. Recently the rapper dropped his album Prima Donna in 2016. The album is responsible for the hit songs Prima Donna, which features hit rapper A$ap Rocky, Loco, and War Ready. Previous to his recent success, Vince Staples put out two works, his debut Summertime ‘06 (2015) and the EP Hell Can Wait (2014), and notable singles, one of which appears in the hit movie Creed. Vince Staples is heavily involved in the LA rap scene, he regularly works and appears on singles from the famed hip-hop group Odd Future. Many of his songs allude to his life and the culture of Long Beach. His sound is similar in style Odd Future puts out, but is versatile in his flow because he mixes in melodic hooks with his raps.

Fans of Earl Sweatshirt, Ab-Soul, and ScHoolboy Q should put this dude on their radar and their Spotify playlist. His rhymes are sick and his rise to fame is just beginning, so  my suggestion is to get in the know before his work blows up Spotify’s Top 50 Playlist. The trip across the bay to Oakland is gonna be worth the time and money to hit up this show.
