Get ready for a lesson in romantics from pop-punk band Mayday Parade as they celebrate their 10 year anniversary of their album A Lesson In Romantics, which released back in 2007. The band is touring with fellow pop-punk bands Knuckle Puck and Milestones. The tour will be stopping San Francisco on April 8th of the new year and playing the Fillmore Theatre.
Mayday Parade has been an established presence in the emo/pop-punk scene for a while. They are famed for their angsty, emotional, and signature anthemic sound. Most recently the band released their fifth album Black Lines in 2015, which released the popular songs Let’s Be Honest and One Of Them Will Destroy The Other, which features fellow pop-punker Dan Lambton of Real Friends. This album is their grittiest to date, but still has a mix of their signature anthem style songs and sweet melodic acoustic songs. Previous to this album, the band has put out four other albums. Some of the most notable songs the band has ever dropped actually appear on the album they’re celebrating. A Lesson In Romantics is responsible for the hits Miserable At Best, Jamie All Over, When I Get Home You’re So Dead, and a personal favorite Black Cat. Mayday Parade’s other notable songs are Kids in Love from their 2009 album Anywhere But Here and Terrible Things from their 2009 EP Valdosta.
The band’s musical themes of romance, heartbreak, and coming of age lessons resonate with their audience for an emotional, but enjoyable experience. I saw them back on Warped Tour in 2014 and they kicked ass with their set. The joy the band exudes is infectious and the crowd is sure to get into their set. Fans of All Time Low, Cartel, and Anarbor will forsure be into this show and this band’s sound. The album they are celebrating was some of the first stuff I listened to when I first heard of the band; the band’s emotional, anthemic, and fun songs caught my short teenage attention span way back when and has held it ever since.
