Atmosphere @ Emo’s 1/20

Since their very first album, 1997’s Overcast!, Atmosphere has been going strong, consistently releasing records to this day. Although they have cycled through a number of members, the group currently consists of founder Sean Daley (Slug) and producer/DJ Anthony Davis (Ant).

Slug initial met, co-founding member Derek Turner (Spawn), in high school, where they performed under the moniker, “Mental Subjects.” After a few more name variations, the duo settled on “Urban Atmosphere,” dropping “Urban” for the release of their debut record. Along the way, the duo started collaborating with Ant, who worked on and produced some of their work. Three years after the release of Overcast!, Spawn would depart from Atmosphere. However, Ant would formally join the collective in 1998, where they began working on the critically acclaimed, sophomore record, Headshots Se7en. Atmosphere has come a long way since their debut record– releasing over 8 albums, and 10 EP’s. Slug has also worked with prominent hip hop musicians over the years, including, Aesop Rock, KRS-One, El-P (Run the Jewels), and DOOM.

Their most recent album– which they are currently touring in support of –Fishing Blues, was released in August of 2016. You can see the duo next month at Emo’s on the 20th for the Atmosphere: Freshwater Fly Fishermen Tour.
