American metalcore band Code Orange seem to be headed in a new direction, signing to major label Roadrunner Records for their upcoming, third studio album, Forever. Originally known as, Code Orange Kids, the Pennsylvania band consisted solely of high school seniors. Despite their age, the young ensemble still managed to have a prolific music career, playing house shows and various DIY spaces when their age prevented certain music venues from hosting them. Over the years, the groups sound began to evolve, favoring hardcore punk and metal, over blatant punk rock.
Their debut album Love is Love/Return to Dust released through the popular punk/metal label Deathwish Inc. For the release of their sophomore record, the group decided it was time for a name change, likely due to a musical departure from their early punk rock sound. I Am King was the first album under the new moniker, Code Orange, and incorporated elements of metal and post-hardcore. Code Orange has toured with the likes of Touché Amoré, Defeater, Birds in Row and Deftones. Apart from their abrasive sound, members of Code Orange– Reba Meyers, Jami Morgan and Joe Goldman –also play in the emo/indie rock band Adventures.
Code Orange will play in Austin next month on the 31st at Barracuda.
