Just a couple weeks ago, Mike IX Williams‘ wife started a YouCaring campaign that was launched to help the Eyehategod frontman with medical expenses. After battling with liver disease for a couple years now along with being in and out of performances on the road, it is official that the singer needs a liver transplant. With being out of commission due to his health it is hard to pay the medical bills along with the surgery with no income from performing. The metal fans of the community have been so gracious and raised more than $60,000 surpassing the original goal. The new goal has now increased to $150,000 since he must have another surgery prior to the transplant.
In the latest update, his wife Michelle Maher-Williams revealed other complications to his health. Just a few weeks ago, the doctors discovered why he was bleeding internally was due to a bleeding ulcer along with low clotting factor. He underwent endoscopic surgery to fix the ulcer and at this time he had stress test that revealed he now has heart damage since his liver failure is taking a toll on his body.
To make things even more complicated, he has to have heart surgery in order to not be taken off the transplant list. So thankfully, with no choice he underwent the heart surgery and pulled through with no complications. At this time he must remain on blood thinners until December 8th, then once it is out of his system he is ready for the transplant. His family cannot thank the fans enough since his deductible is paid for his insurance along with past hospital bills, but the actual surgery still needs to be covered.
Williams took to his page Saturday writing,
“What a perfect time to get this outpouring of LOVE and caring for my situation; its overwhelming to say the least! Thank you to my friends, family & fans for your sweet and kind donations and show of massive support! I really care about you people more than you’ll ever imagine and appreciate all you’ve done for me!”
In addition to all of the support for the fans, fellows in the metal industry are having benefit shows that have been booked for February 3-5 in New Orleans featuring bands such as Eyehategod, Crowbar, and Goatwhore. Even though Williams may be unable to perform, Philip Anselmo and Randy Blythe have recently been filling in for him.
