On Friday, January 20th, 2017 the first volume in the “Music To Draw To” series titled Satelite is being released and setting the bar for the series high with Canadian DJ Eric San also known as Kid Koala. The DJ is not only singing on the album but is also writing lyrics, producing and performing all instruments. Satellite will mark the first non-sample-based record for Kid Koala. Instead, the album showcases Koala’s production skills by using an array of synthesizers, keys, guitars, basses, strings, turntables, noisemakers, and inventive recording techniques to create its celestial atmosphere.

Music To Draw To: Satellite has eighteen tracks and is composed in a way that is meant to tell a story of discovery and loss through the lens of lovers separated by a one-way space mission to Mars. Eight of the songs that were written by Kid Koala include collaborations with Emilíana Torrini. Kid Koala has nothing but good things to say about working with the singer stating “Emilíana Torrini is one of my favorite singers in the world. I’ve been following her work since her first album. She’s just got one of those singular voices that has captivated me for years. Even when she is singing at whisper quiet levels, it’s enough to crack your heart open. I’m so honored to have had the chance to work with her on this record.”

Kid Koala has also announced a series of special “turntable orchestra” performance concerts to promote Music To Draw To: Satellite’s release. These performances will use audience collaboration under the direction of Kid Koala in real time as each audience member sits at their own turntable station and plays custom-cut Satellite Orchestra Tone Vinyl records and effects pedals that are being designed by Earthquaker Devices specially for the series. Satellite shows begin February 2017 with live residencies in Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa and two shows at Le Poisson Rouge in New York.
