LISTEN: Telefon Tel Aviv Releases First Song Ever “Reak What”

It has been nearly 8 years since we last heard of the experimental electronic project Telefon Tel-Aviv, which was comprised of Joshua Eustis and Charlie Cooper, who passed away in 2009.

Eustis has remained active, recording with Puscifer, touring with Nine Inch Nails, and writing songs under the moniker Sons Of Magdalene, but has not really touched Telefon Tel Aviv.

That however, has changed this year, according to Stereogum, Eustis is bringing the name out of dormancy, and bringing it back into the light by  creating North American tour dates, and more importantly, releasing a reissuing of their 2001 debut Fahrenheit Fair Enough, which features the original nine tracks that have been remastered and sounding fresh as can be, and also includes eight bonus tracks from their earlier days in the studio.’

The first bonus track to be released is “Reak What”, which was the first ever recorded track by the duo, with a sound to match that includes glitchy percussion, distorted vocals, and carefully-controlled synth, that all yields a more mellow, down-tempo tune.

This “new” track showcases a reminder of what EDM used to be like in the 90’s, it is incredible to see the development of the sounds that the duo was using back then.

However, this all begs the question as to why Eustis has chosen to begin releasing their old reservoir of music, and whether or not this means that he will look to release new music under the Telefon Tel Aviv name. Will he remain solo? or will he look to find another partner to potentially replace the member lost so many years ago.
