Back in January of last year, Yasiin Bey attempted to leave South Africa with a “world passport.” Unfortunately, the country of South Africa does not accept this as an acceptable form of ID. Bey was illegally living in South Africa for approximately three years and upon leaving the country he found himself in between a rock and a hard place. A “world passport” is issued by the World Service Authority to “Provide a global political service institution for the installation and maintenance of world peace.” In which, South Africa does not accept this ID.
Proceeding to more recent events, Yasiin Bey apologized to the South African government for violating its immigration laws. The government did indeed accept Bey’s apology. They stated, “The department is satisfied with the apology and will withdraw the charges against him.” But, Bey has been placed on South Africa’s “undesirable person” list. This essentially blacklists Bey from entering the country again.
Moving forward, he has remained musically persistent throughout this entire legal process. Bey has continued to release new music. Such as, “N.A.W.”, which stands for Needs and Wants, “Tall Sleeves”, “Local Time” and more. During his captivity in South Africa, Bey was also free styling on Kanye West’s website. When Bey free styled on West’s website, he discussed his long desire to go home along with his plans to retire from music.
Before retiring, Bey intends on performing a few last shows in the U.S.
