It looks like LL Cool J’s six-year streak of being the Grammy’s main MC is over, as CBS’s Late Night Show’s host James Corden is heading over to host on the big stage at the 59 annual Grammy Awards ceremony. The English comedian/host is most notable for his “Carpool Karaoke” segment where Corden drives around Los Angeles giving playful interviews and singing with special guests. Some of the most notable have been celebrities such as Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga, and Justin Bieber.
In a comment in regards to hosting the prestigious event, Corden said “I am truly honored to be hosting The Grammys next year. It’s the biggest, most prestigious award show in music, and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of such an incredible night.”
Cordon’s experience with music extends farther than brief karaoke sessions on a tv segment, as he also has a background in musical theater. He even won a Tony award in 2012 for a role in Broadway’s performance of One Man, Two Guvnors. Now it only seems appropriate that his career comes in full circle–back to the awards stage, but as host.
The 2017 Grammy Awards will be aired live from the Los Angeles Staples Center on February 12 of next year.
