Coming off of their highly anticipated return to music with their newly released album “We Got It From Here, Thank You 4 Your Service” and a successful appearance on Saturday Night Live that included the long awaited return of Dave Chappelle, someone who has never been afraid to show his love for hip hop. A Tribe Called Quest has released a video to a track off the album titled “We the People” one of the songs they performed on Saturday Night Live.
The video starts with a time lapse of the New York skyline which happens to be the birthplace of A Tribe Called Quest. It transitions to a number of quick shots of people grabbing materials to build something, possibly everyone gathering together for a certain task to really stress the title of the song “We The People”.
Q-Tip stands in a room that is to act as a self-made studio with an assortment of different mics and cables. Shots of the neighborhood show cables running throughout the streets while children are running towards the sound of the music. A gathering of the forgotten minds is what this shot represents while Q-Tip himself represents a shining light in a sometimes dark world.
What appears to be a beautiful painting of deceased group member Phife Dawg becomes animated as his verse begins to play while Busta Rhymes makes an appearance to rap along to the verse. The video ends with an aerial shot of a massive crowd protesting with the words “We The People” in three different positions.
