Pissed Jeans Announces New Album Why Love Now for February 2017 Release

Sub Pop punk outfit Pissed Jeans are set to release their fifth album, Why Love Now, on February 24. The Philly group shared the album’s first single, “The Bar is Low”, to celebrate the announcement.

Pissed Jeans last released an album in 2013, with Honeys receiving near unanimous acclaim. Why Love Now was produced by Lydia Lunch and Arthur Rizk (of Sumerlands) and features contributions from author Lindsay Hunter, delivering a “self-penned monologue of W.B. Mason-inspired erotica.”

New track “The Bar is Low” follows a fairly standard, yet consistently strong template. Guttural lead guitar dominates the raw mix, accentuated by rhythm guitar and relatively laid back drums. Matt Korvette primal voice is all rage, rising to maximum impact as the lead guitar gives way to the more traditional rhythm guitar. The track succeeds due to its simplicity, not attempting toy with an already perfected sound.

According to Korvette, the song is about “how every guy seems to be revealing themselves as a shithead.” Stream the track below, and check out the cover art and tracklist, as well as a press photo.
