Xiu Xiu Announces New Album Wondering for February 2017

American experimental noise pop group; Xiu Xiu has announced the release of a new album called Forget. The 10-track LP was produced by veterans John Congleton, Greg Saunier of Deerfhoor and Xiu Xiu’s own Angela Seo. Seo was recruited to the group by Jamie  Stewart in late 2009 after the departure of Caralee McElroy. Forget is being released on the 24th of February and follow’s an album of covers titled Twin Peaks which was released earlier this year. Forget will serve as the first LP of original music for the group since they released two projects in 2014’s: Unclouded Sky and Angel Guts: Red Classroom.

Xiu Xie is known for an experimental sound and even heavily utilized a Nintendo DS to write many of the songs on their 2010 release Dear God, I Hate Myself. Despite their history of experimenting with sounds and creating some pretty controversial music videos in the past Forget is said to be the band’s most direct engagement with pop music. This change in direction shows in the album’s first single “Wondering”, which is described by the Consequence of Sound as being “equal parts glowing bounce and shadowy textures.” For this venture into new waters, the band has pulled from classic synth pop as well as rock and roll.  The meaning behind title itself has been described by Stewart as “To forget uncontrollably embraces the duality of human frailty. It is a rebirth in blanked out renewal but it also drowns and mutilates our attempt to hold on to what is dear.”
