Holy Wave @ Barracuda 11/26

Holy Wave, taken from the last names of their friends John Holy and Ted Wave, is a hazy, psychedelic, reverb ridden, rock band based out Austin, Texas. Initially from El Paso, the psych rock outfit formed in 2008. However, the music scene in El Paso proved to be less opportunistic than its eccentric, long distance relative, Austin. The group packed up, and trekked the 8-hour long distance to make music in the capital city. The band established themselves, proving to fit in perfectly with Austin’s love of all things psych.

The debut LP Knife Hits was released in 2011, which overlaid influences of shoegaze and warm, surf infused garage rock, on top of the bands notable psychedelic workings. Relax was the bands proper sophomoric release, which continued to embraced their garage rock influenced ways. The band continued to grow in popularity, making them a beloved favorite among local Austinites. Holy Wave’s warm and dreamy, neo-psychedelic ways were further encompassed on their most recent effort Freaks of Nurture, which drew help from producer Erik Wofford, known for his work with several other notable Austin bands such as The Black Angels and Explosions in The Sky.

Holy Wave will perform at Barracuda this month on the 26th
