Four-piece indie rock band Broncho are riding the high of the newly released third LP, Double Vanity, which has taken a slower and denser approach than the fast, pop fueled melodies of previous records. Although, it’s tough to label Broncho, as the group seems to display elements of garage rock, punk, new wave, and pop. Much like the start of other bands of their caliber, the group was heavily involved in their local music scene of Norman, Oklahoma. Guitarist/vocalist Ryan Lindsey formed Broncho, with the initial line up consisting of guitarist Ben King, bassist Jonathan Ford, and drummer Nathan Price. The college town of Norman followed suit of other popular music scenes, with local bands adopting the fuzzy garage rock sound that’s been popularized in underground music scenes all over the country.
Eventually, Broncho gained national attention for the release of the 2011 full-length Can’t Get Past the Lips, which received acclaim from several media outlets. After the 2013 re-release of their debut, Broncho began recording songs for the sophomore effort Just Enough Hip to Be Woman, which propelled their popularity. Singles from the record were featured in several commercials, and on the hit HBO show Girls. The popularity of Just Enough Hip to Be Woman even led them to a tour with Billy Idol. They took another drastic turn with latest record Double Vanity, so it’s tough to predict where the band is headed musically.
You can see Broncho at The Sidewinder next month on the 3rd.
