Time warping back into the 70s, White Lies releases a new video for “Morning in LA” which entails a vintage demeanor incorporated within.
A modern-day Ian Curtis mixed with The Cars is this post-punk’s musical idiosyncratic nature. “Morning in LA”, more specifically, displays despondent mentality toward modern-day adult friendships. Catchy yet authentic, they sing “They all got disconnected but I’m left hanging on.” Exemplifying life-decisions that further friends and more often than not, people find themselves isolated from the people they were closest with. “Morning in LA” has a theme of friendship incorporated within the song that coincides with their album Friends; which was released on October 7th. They have, and still are, currently touring this album throughout Europe.
During an interview, Charles Cave touched on the issues with the big six media conglomerates destruction of modern-day film. Claiming that there is no authenticity, everything has simply become a remake. He furthers this thought; “We had been wanting to do a performance style video for a while and the Killing Joke video from which outs respectfully steals is an absolute classic of the genre.” Thereby, he explains that a decent amount of people refer to their music as “gothic” or melancholy. “Morning in LA” he argues is their “jolliest” song yet but still tends to their gothic style.
“Morning in LA” is a flip-flop of emotions. It describes all the feelings people acquire when attempting to maintain long-distance friendships. Touching on all aspects of what exactly make these long-distance relationships difficult to sustain. However, the “jolliness” of the song comes from the desire to keep these friendships and not abandon the times you’ve had with them and the more memories to come.
Cave continues this interview and makes a thought provoking remark. He states, “Of course all this talk of mornings in LA, and America has made us keen to get back out there, and see some friends- old and new- at shows supporting the new record.” He furthers the discussion talking about how America in general is a huge country. Cave insists that he wishes the band could play five times more cities but that is not practicable. Nonetheless, they try and achieve this. Cave ends the interview explaining that out of all the paradise destinations they tour; Mexico remains their favorite.
Staying busy, they plan to take on yet another tour for this album in North America.Tickets and information presented below.
