LISTEN: Julia Holter Releases New Song “Vinny’s Triumph”

Recent movie-goers may have had the chance to catch the trailer for the upcoming film Bleed For This, a dark and torrid biopic directed by Ben Younger. While the film centers on the rise, fall, and eventual, unexpected rise again of former world champion boxer Vinny Paz, what it leaves out in the chaos of excess and  demise during the epic movie preview, is at the heart of Vinny Paz (played by Miles Teller) resides the original, and truly awe-inducing film score brought to movie and music fans alike thanks to Julia Holter.

Consequence of Sound reports, “today, [Julia Holter’s] previewing that collection of music with an uplifting number titled ‘Vinny’s Triumph’.

‘The first time I heard Julia Holter’s voice was in a rental car driving on La Brea listening to Morning Becomes Eclectic on KCRW,’ Bleed For This director Ben Younger recalled in a statement. ‘It was one of those moments when you know you will love a song three notes in. You just know. I ran straight back to my friend’s house where I was staying, downloaded the album, hit the repeat button and wrote all morning while that song played.’

In support of Younger’s own inspiration and adoration for his key composer, Holter evokes moments of seige and triumph in an inexplicable reworking of the previously stereotypical likings of  her predecessors. Harrowing interpretations of the piano and additional orchestra ensembles intertwine with experimental integration of vocals. While Holter is at the center of all of this brain and beauty, contributions to the overarching soundtrack also include George Michael and Willis Earl Beal.

While the 31 year-old California native’s contributions to Hollywood are at the dawn of a new era, where Holter, even unintentionally or unknowingly, is at the forefront of a group of strong and inspiring women redefining the parameters of all creative fields, her efforts are nonetheless a glimmering light towards not just gender gaps, but also innovations within the category of film scoring across the field.

But, for all of this life-or-death compelling sound, inquiring listeners must wait a little more (but check out the preview right below). The album is still wading in a promised pool of  an ever-nearing November 18th release; however, rookie and veteran fans of Holter can fill the next few days with the lady of the hour’s most recent 2015 release, and fourth studio album Have You In My Wildnerness.
