WATCH: Death Cab For Cutie Releases New Video for “Million Dollar Loan”

Beloved indie alternative rock band Death Cab for Cutie has just released a new animated video for “Million Dollar Loan,” a song they had submitted to the “30 Days 50 Songs” (fka “30 Days 30 Songs”) project, where well known artists including Franz Ferdinand, clipping., and Rogue Wave contributed songs in protest against Donald Trump presidency.

The band wrote “In honor of Election Day … we are posting new animated video for ‘Million Dollar Loan.’ It was created by the very talented Andrew Ralph and we are excited to share it with you. Although we have made our stance clear, no matter who you support please be sure to vote.”

Regarding the song itself, frontman and songwriter Ben Gibbard has said: “Lyrically, ‘Million Dollar Loan’ deals with a particularly tone deaf moment in Donald Trump’s ascent to the Republican nomination. While campaigning in New Hampshire last year, he attempted to cast himself as a self-made man by claiming he built his fortune with just a ‘small loan of a million dollars’ from his father. Not only has this statement been proven to be wildly untrue, he was so flippant about it. It truly disgusted me. Donald Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he is unworthy of the honor and responsibility of being President of the United States of America, and in no way, shape or form represents what this country truly stands for. He is beneath us.”

Following the results of election day, the track seems like a biting indictment of the true nature of the man whom was just elected as the President of the United States for the next 4 years. Check out the video below and a link to a Spotify playlist of the project here.
