Fresh off the release of their full-length album A Glimpse of Self Joy, Fossil Youth will be heading to Texas to conclude their West Coast 2016 tour, which started earlier this month in Salina, Kansas. The band was initially started as a solo project by guitarist and lead vocalist Scottie Noonan. Although, sometime throughout the next year Noonan’s would be solo act would form into the collective known today as Fossil Youth. The four-piece has cultivated a distinct take on mid 90’s to early 00’s emo/pop punk, akin to bands such as Jawbreaker and Recover.
After signing with Take This to Heart Records, the label released a split EP along with labelmates Wickerwolves, featuring two songs from each band. Following the split EP, Fossil Youth delivered the debut EP Intertwined with You, which displayed a grating, slightly more post-hardcore influenced sound than their following album. For the recording of Intertwined with You, the band worked with former Death by Stereo bassist turned record producer, Paul Miner. Miner’s production credits include work on albums from Thrice and New Found Glory. Their debut record A Glimpse of Self Joy was produced by Jay Maas, founder of hardcore band Defeater, and shifted from the noisier, pop punk approach of previous works, towards a cleaner, indie rock centric tone.
A Glimpse of Self Joy is available for streaming on Spotify, and you can see them live at the newly established DIY space Shirley’s Temple on the 21st.
