Neil Young Announces New Album Peace Trail For December 2016 Release

Sometimes, it seems like Neil Young has made so many records and explored so many sounds over his 50+ year career that it’s impossible to discern his musical identity. To add to this prolific artist’s phenomenal 38 album discography, Young has just announced brand new studio album, Peace Trail, due December 2nd via Reprise Records.

The album will be comprised of 10 entirely new tracks, penned and recorded after the release of this past summer’s live LP, Earth. Both Earth and 2015’s The Monsanto Years were recorded alongside Promise of the Real, Young decided to hit the Rick Rubin’s Shangri-la Studios with session musicians Jim Keltner and Paul Bushnell on drums and bass, respectively.

The Monsanto Years reflected the rock and roll legend’s well-known anger, that time directed at major corporations including the titular Monsanto, with Promise of the Real displaying hard rock not unlike Crazy Horse’s antics. In contrast, a press release for the album explained that Peace Trail was a “primarily acoustic” effort that “reflects an intimate, sparse approach that draws the listening into the heart of the songs in a personal way.”

In an attempt to whet the appetites of his fans before the December release, Young released a single by the name of “Indian Givers.” Peace Trail will be available as a CD, digital download, or cassette on December 2nd, with a vinyl release following in January. Pre-orders are going via Young’s website and his PONOMusic store. Find a music video for “Indian Givers,” the album art, and tracklist below.
