On the night of October 22nd in Malibu, California, a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club took place that sparked social media and newsworthy interest. At this fundraiser, supergroup cast of famed musicians came together to perform covers and renditions of classic songs. The “new boy band,” described by Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, was fronted by Chris Martin of Coldplay and Beck, who just recently released new song.
The band had six members and all were very well known or established within each of their own bands. Backing the two frontmen, Chris Martin and Beck, the guitarist, vocalist, and son of Bob Dylan, Jakob Dylan lent his ability to the group. Next, the keyboardist of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, Roy Bittan, and Goldfrapp’s David Rossi were vital components of the band. Lastly, providing the backbone of the band was Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Caught in Instagram posts, three songs covered by the band were captured. As stated, Beck and Martin lead the band, although the musical virtuosity of the band shows it as a powerful machine in just these short clips. “My Hometown” by Bruce Springsteen, “Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd, and “Surfin’ USA” by The Beach Boys were captured in Instagram posts and the last one was even by Chad Smith himself, in which he captioned “my new boy band.” See the post below…
