Numerous artists have announced exclusive vinyl releases for Record Store Day’s annual November 25th Black Friday event. Notable artists releasing music include Prince, The Rolling Stones, Erykah Badu, and Jack White.
Record Store Day releases will include reissues, covers, live albums, and cinematic scores. The actual Record Store Day is held annually in April, but Record Store Day now coordinates with independent and major labels to hold an event on Black Friday.
Among the notable reissues, Prince will be honored with a new 12-inch picture disc featuring his 1992 single with the New Power Generation, “Sefy M.F.”. Jack White will also reissue a limited edition 7-inch of the Raconteurs’ “Steady, As She Goes” b/w “Store Bought Bones” featuring a reproduction of the group’s backstage passes.
Among the notable cover releases, the Rolling Stones will release their cover of Eddie Taylor’s “Ride ‘Em On Down” – also set to appear on their upcoming LP Blue and Lonesome – on a 10-inch record limited to 3,000 copies. Amanda Palmer and Jherek Bischoff will also issue their EP Strung Out in Heaven, a six-track homage to David Bowie and Prince arranged for string quartet and voice featuring guests Neil Gaiman, Anna Calvi and John Cameron Mitchell.
Among the notable original albums, Erykah Badu will issue her 2015 mixtape, But You Caint Use My Phone, on clear vinyl. Prophets of Rage will also issue a vinyl edition of debut EP, The Party’s Over.
Among the notable cinematic albums, Chinatown’s soundtrack will debut on vinyl while while Walt Disney Records will offer a special Star Wars 10-inch picture disc featuring Shag Kava’s “Jabba Flow.”
