LISTEN: Sims Releases New Song “Brutal Dance”

Doomtree member Sims has released the third single off his upcoming album More Than Ever, entitled “Brutal Dance”. His new album drops November 4th via Doomtree Records.

Sims first new single, “Triple 6’s”, which will not feature on More Than Ever, reestablished his laconic, classic flow within the established Doomtree sonic palette.

His most recent singles, “OneHundred” and “Icarus”, demonstrated Sims’ growth since his most recent full-length solo release (2011’s Bad Time Zoo), despite the in-house Doomtree production.

“Brutal Dance”, a solid track overall, fails where his three most recently released singles succeeded. As usual, Sims’ bars hit more than miss, and Lazerbeak’s production retains its general ingenuity. However, it is unclear how “Brutal Dance” furthers Sims’ established repertoire.

He’s rhymed over similar Lazerbeak productions many times over, and is clearly comfortable over deep base and click-like synths. “Brutal Dance” is a clear regression to Sims’ comfort zone.

To date, Sims has released two solo studio LP’s and four EP’s. He’s featured prominently on each Doomtree release, and has contributed guest bars on numerous Doomtree member productions.

Collectively, Doomtree has issued three LP’s, and each member has released at least one solo LP through the Doomtree label.
