Psychedelic rock troupe Radiohead, who released a stream to the In Rainbow Bonus Disc, seem to have been dropping hints as to where they intend to put on one of their great performances. Yesterday, Radiohead’s bear logo appeared in the grass at Worthy Farm, which is also the location for the UK’s enormous Glanstonbury Festival, and according to the group’s Instagram, the hints have finally been confirmed.
Stereogum reports that the band posted the logo image on their Instagram with caption that simply read “Friday 23 June 2017 – Glastonbury Festival”, finally allowing fan’s anticipation to be relieved. This announcement arrives much earlier than expected for the festival, which is not scheduled until next summer, however, Radiohead is a big enough deal that they might as well start getting fans excited now.
This will not be the band’s first visit to the UK’s massive festival, in fact, Radiohead have graced the Glastonbury stage four times since the festival inauguration with their debut performance in 1995 on the NME stage (on the same day as Oasis, Blur, Pulp, and Spiritualized performed), then performing again in ’97 and ’03, then serving as a special surprise guests in 2011 where they made their last appearance in Glastonbury. The group made another show announcement only a few hours later. Radiohead will also be performing in Poland, at Opener Festival on Wednesday, June 28th. This announcement was also released via the group’s Instagram, however this time, it was not accompanied with their bear logo etched into the grass.
These new shows bring an amazing sense of hope that Radiohead intend to get back on the road and performed more than just a couple of festival stops in the distant but not so distant future.
