On Oct. 9 at 5:12 a.m. singer Michiyuki Kawashima of the Japanese electronic music band Boom Boom Satellites, passed away from a brain tumor at the ripe age of 47. There will be a private wake and funeral for family and friends or those who were close to Kawashima. For fans looking to show their condolences, there will be a farewell event held later on and details will be posted to the bands website.
The second member to Boom Boom Satellites Masayuki Nakano took to their official Facebook page to post the news accompanied with kind words in honor of his late friend.
“I imagine he is soaring around the world, finally freed from the restrictions of his body. His passing is not a tragedy, but the achievement of a lifetime goal and a happy ending. The love of our many fans supported Michiyuki Kawashima and BOOM BOOM SATELLITES on their journey, and we are truly happy and lucky because of you.”
He continued by saying, “I would like to thank all our fans and colleagues again. Thank you for supporting us up until now. Live your lives with passion and energy and keep the music we made, the time we spent together, and the memories we shared close to you. One more thing, we are BOOM BOOM SATELLITES!!”
The band confirmed their latest LP Lay Your Hands On Me would be their last project, due to Kawashima’s declining health.
Boom Boom Satellites have contributed their musical genius to Hollywood’s big blockbuster film The Dark Knight, and also produced music for several anime shows including “Appleseed,” and ” Kiznaiver” where their single “Lay Your Hands On Me” served as the theme song.
Kawashima was loved and respected by his many fans, and will truly be missed by everyone he touched.
