Spirit Club, the trio of Wavves’ Nathan Williams, his brother Joel Williams, and Andrew Caddick, have shared a single, “Broken Link”, along with its accompanying music video.
“Broken Link” features clear hallmarks of a classic Nathan Williams-fronted track, yet simultaneously proves the breadth of his stylistic capabilities. Wavves-like garage guitars and dry drums power the track’s rhythm, while Williams unmistakable vocals carry an effortless sunny melody. However, the track remains focused and tight throughout, and sounds oddly, but effectively, muted in comparison to Williams previous work.
The single’s video retains Williams’ penchant for cryptic, near-indecipherable imagery. Psychedelic animations are rapidly interspersed with scientific experiments and landscape photography. The latter half of the video features multiple portrait shots of statues.
“Broken Link” will appear on the group’s upcoming album Slouch, out October 21 via Williams’ Ghost Ramp label. Spirit Club previously shared two singles, “Fast Ice” and “Room to Run”, which are set to feature on their new LP.
Nathan Williams’ Ghost Ramp label will open a new physical store in Los Angeles on October 15, located at 715 Newhigh Street (Unit C). The label will host a streaming party that same day for the new Spirit Club record from 12 to 7 p.m. So Stressed, the label’s newest signee, will perform at the party.
