A Look Back: Dave Grohl’s First Show With Nirvana

On this day in history, Eleanor Roosevelt (former first lady) was born, Saturday Night Live debuted, Apollo 7 was launched, Jimmy Carter received a noble prize and last but not least, Dave Grohl performed with Nirvana for the first time.

On September 25th 1990, Dave Grohl had left his former band Scream for Nirvana. Fortunately, about a year after the release of, debatably one of Nirvana’s most popular albums, Nevermind. Beforehand, Nirvana had released a 1989 Bleached. Featuring popular songs, “About A Girl”, “Floyd The Barber” and “Blew”. Gaining a decent amount of popularity before the newest addition, Dave Grohl, would step in and make drummer history. Would Nirvana have the same success rate without Grohl’s iconic drumming and boundless dark hair?

Just a little over two weeks after joining Nirvana, Dave Grohl and the band had their first official gig together at the North Shore Surf Club in Olympia, Washington. Videos show the tangled crowd violently filled with ravish. Clearly, adding Dave Grohl to the band was an immediate success. Surely, The Foo Fighters would agree with this statement as well.
