Last night in their hometown of Vancouver, the Japandroids launched their first tour in three years. The concert, which was played at The Cobalt theater, featured an abundance of new material, including the new song “Arc of Bar,” captured live on video.
While the sound is underwhelming in this low-quality shot, there’s still a sense of the new song’s feel and groove. It’s a drum heavy, garage band kind of jam. As always, Brian King is on guitar and David Prowse on the drums, and both musicians switch off singing verses. The band continues with their alternative, punk rock style.
The Japandroids have been relatively silent for the last several years. That makes news of fresh music all the more exciting for fans who haven’t heard anything new since Celebration Rock, the Japandroids second studio album released in 2012. It’s speculated that, with the release of new music, a third album might be expected in the future.
The set included at least four other new songs. The Japandroids international tour will come stateside next week. Here are the tour dates:
