It’s not clear yet whether or not the Coyote Who Spoke In Tongues refers to John Garcia himself, or more likely a desert mirage he once came across during his time in Palm Desert, California. Regardless, Garcia is claiming this album to be the most important of his career.
Garcia got his start with the stoner rock band Kyuss and, more recently, formed a new band in 2012 called Vista Chino, which featured several other members from Kyuss. This album, however, takes a significant turn for Garcia, diversifying his musical resume. The Coyote Who Spoke In Tongues is entirely acoustically arranged.
In a statement, Garcia said that the album was “difficult and challenging to do, but worth every minute of sweat!” With nine tracks on the album, that’s a moderate amount of sweat to be expected. Along with Garcia’s solo work, the album features some old Kyuss material in acoustic stylings. Garcia was joined in the recording studio by Ehren Groban (acoustic guitar), Greg Saenz (percussion), and Mike Pygmie (bass).
