It’s a really good week for Faith No More fans. Just a few days ago, news broke that alt-metal band reissued two albums: King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime (1995), and the ironic, aptly named, Album of the Year (1997). It was news that reassured a rising comeback for a band that, other than the 2015 album Sol Invictus, hadn’t stirred up much noise since reuniting in 2009. If that news wasn’t enough to grab your attention, just wait…there’s more.
Today, Faith No More released a music video for “Cone of Shame,” one of the songs off Sol Invictus. Directed by Goce Cvetanovski, the video does well to fit the mood of the song. It’s dark, intense, and curiously original. It’s a refreshing reminder that the band is still actively brushing against the grain, creating art in their own non-conforming style.
“This is one of those tracks that had to be a video, really, because it lends itself so much to visual imagery,” said bassist and band founder Billy Gould. The video was shot in Macedonia, where Gould has traveled several times. “There’s a vibe there that I felt wouldn’t be out of place as a backdrop to this song. Goce Cvetanovski, as a director, understood this immediately; he knew exactly what to do with it, and along with an amazing cast, has managed to create something very dark, and beautifully cinematic.”
“Cone of Shame” will be available on Record Store Day (November 25) as a limited edition, 7″ vinyl-only single.
