Fruit Bats @ SPACE 10/28

Over the years, Fruit Bats have taken on many forms. And no, I don’t mean the animal, but the band. The lineup has morphed several times, but Eric Johnson has always played an integral role in the group. He is truly a local, straight from Naperville, IL. Fruit Bats was originally a solo project, but he brought in band members of other projects of his. Forever morphing, some major events in Johnson’s life have played a huge role in the shape of the band.

In November of 2013, Johnson announced the end of Fruit Bats. However, nearly two years later, he has decided to pick up the band again to create an outlet to fuel his pent up feelings about him and his wife losing their baby in the first trimester.

The strange, calming mix of folk and indie ideas create songs perfect for rainy days and chill playlists. The harmonies are always perfectly formed, including defining piano parts that are somehow missing from most music these days. For a chance to see a truly talented guy play music from the heart, you should think about going to this gig.
