Thom Yorke Is Tired Of Non-Traditional Album Releases

Pitchfork reports, Radiohead frontmant Thom Yorke, in an interview with BenjiB on BBC Radio 1, said that he has had enough with figuring out non-traditional ways to release his music. This interview comes after Radiohead’s seventh studio album release for In Rainbows, which made waves with its innovative “pay-what-you-want” business model, not to mention Yorke’s most recent solo album Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, which was released through peer-to-peer download company BitTorrent.

Thom Yorke, who most recently appeared on Mark Pritchard’s newest video “Beautiful People“, was asked about his solo album release, and he said “Ugh, yeah, again… Enough of that now. I’ve entirely had enough of that… Just put it out, man. No more fuss, just put it out. I’m getting too old for that bit. It takes away from things a bit, sometimes frustrating.” He goes on, “The energy of trying to figure out how to do it differently and circumvent the monsters and you’re like… whatever.”

This news could concern  fans of Radiohead/Yorke, thinking it could cause a halt in new work to come out of the artist’s studio, but it seem more like Yorke is done putting bells and whistles on an album that frankly does not need it. Rather than relying on tricks and gimmicks to drive up sales of music, Yorke is looking to return back to how things were done traditionally, like when the band was up-and-coming. Let the fans listen and decide for themselves whether they want to buy the album, letting the work speak for itself, and allowing the chips to fall where they may.

It is unclear how this will translate to Radiohead and Yorke’s upcoming work, but it can only be assumed that the next album that is completed will hit the shelves in a standard fashion, and fans will be there waiting.
