Hopsin @ Concord Music Hall 10/25

There aren’t many rappers that take a strong stance against drugs and alcohol, which is why Hopsin stands out among the masses. Not only that, but he directly addresses issues that relate to each and every one of us. His raps are chockfull of how he sees religion, society, himself, and his past. Nothing is sacred, he is brutally honest about how he feels and in an age when some songs just seem to repeat themselves, he really presents something special to the hip hop community.

His “Ill Mind” series consisting of eight separate rap songs that add onto each other basically give you insight to his personal beliefs and values. He says he’s known as the “corny” rapper, but his songs are also incredibly catchy and his flow can go in so many different directions. In his past, he has had issues with record labels and his former manager (which is addressed in “Ill Mind 8”) but he managed to fight his way out of the unfair circumstances and emerge as a successful solo artist.

Hopsin hasn’t been playing many shows lately, so I would definitely jump on this opportunity to see him live. He is just as impressive live as he is on recording. He is fighting the apathetic culture that is spreading through rap by being completely real with his audience. Hopsin is truly one of a kind.
