Thursday at Metro on September 16

Post-hardcore band Thursday is coming to Riot Fest this September. But before their main stage performance at the festival, the band will be joined by fellow emo band Braid at Metro for an official Riot Fest Late Night Show. Thursday will be performing their classic album, War All The Time in full at the show. This just announced performance will take place on Saturday, September 16 at Metro in Chicago.

Thursday got their start in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 1997. Lead singer Geoff Rickly, bassist Tim Payne, drummer Tucker Rule and guitarist Bill Henderson were frequents in the New York house show scene throughout the late nineties, handing out demos at the shows. Thursday skyrocketed to fame after releasing their second album Full Collapse in 2001 with Victory Records, whom they began to have disputes with. After a bidding war between many major labels, Thursday decided to sign with Island Records. In 2003, their major label debut, War All The Time, came along.

War All The Time was written and recorded in only six months. It expands on ideas, thematically and musically, that Thursday had been exploring since their first album. Don’t let the title deceive you though (as it did many critics and fans) – the album is about romance and love at it’s core. Rickly said of the title in a 2003 interview with MTV, “I think a title like War All the Time for a record about love seems to demonstrate what our band is about — that balance between violence and grace.” The album charted at number seven on the Billboard 200, and received rave reviews from critics.

After six albums, many tours, and multiple break ups and returns, Thursday is back and better than ever. Hot off their guest tenure with My Chemical Romance in 2022, Thursday’s Riot Fest Late Night Show is not one you want to miss. Tickets are available here
